HB2 Whining Marks McCrory’s Departure

HB2 Whining Marks McCrory’s Departure

Roy Cooper was sworn in as Governor of North Carolina early this morning and thus Pat McCrory was sworn out. Upon his departure he posted a YouTube video reflecting on his tenure.

He is sore about losing, clearly. He blamed the “manufactured crisis” over transgenders in bathrooms and House Bill 2, which is accurate, but clearly his heart wasn’t in defending the law — even though he received plenty of kudos from allies for doing so. He also blasted the ACC for moving sports championships from North Carolina, especially football:

“I thought it was a travesty, and by the way, they didn’t do a good job of filling up the seats in Orlando. They were giving away tickets. The ACC had no problem having three football games shamelessly during the hurricane here in Raleigh, which they shouldn’t have done, but they canceled a game for a social issue.”

Good points for sure. But throughout his time in office, McCrory has shown he is more concerned about the economic effects of policies rather than whether the policies are right or wrong. He could have learned from re-elected Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, who passionately defended HB2, won his race by 7 points, and even received more votes than Donald Trump in North Carolina.

One thing McCrory sort of learned: The legacy media in the state hates his guts. So it was smart for him to blow off The News & Observer‘s requests for a final interview, while giving many of them to their competitors. But he inexplicably sat down for a half-hour to assess his governorship with WRAL-TV, whose owners collectively gave more than $30,000 to the campaign of his opponent Cooper.

Perhaps some consistency with principles, instead of political expediency, would have served McCrory better in November.

Perhaps, if you oppose HB2, I thought he was a good Governor, he supported HB2. No problem all these years, with transvestites until some bunch of liberal dummies brought it to the forefront & Reverrreennne Barber & his followers took it & ran with it. I am not in favor of men being allowed to go & come into girl's lockers or bathrooms, totally unnecessary.

I think it stinks that our NC people would pick money over the safety of our children with this stupid bathroom deal.

Safety???????? Trannies have been using the bathroom of their choice for years in every state in the union. No problem ever came up as to "safety" in fact most people didn't realize it. The NC GA had to solve another non-existent problem.

This started in Charlotte, it should never have been an issue, we all know trannies have been using the restrooms of their choice, with most of us never even knowing. It's not about being afraid of trannies, it's about opening up our women restrooms and locker rooms to all men, peeves, and sickos. A real man will use the men's room without a doubt, but then their are those (not trannies) who are not "well", who will be a threat to women and children.

Dang. For the upteenth millionth time: ITS NOT ABOUT THE TRANNIES, STUPID. It's about the unintended (or perhaps intended) consequence of allowing NON-TRANSSEXUAL predators, molesters and perverts obtaining legal cover to hang out in the Ladies Room. If you don't understand this distinction, you are hopeless.

The problem wasn't trannies using restrooms of their choice. The problem was the Charlotte City ordinance that made it illegal for a private business to maintain separate restroom facilities for males and females. That's what HB2 was really designed to stop.

Gov McCrory lost through cheating - 90k magically appearing votes as soon as it was discovered that he narrowly beat Cooper. NC is a great example of voter fraud. Disappearing and magically appearing votes should never be counted. There is carefully dictated procedure on the handling of votes. If the chain of custody is broken those ballots shouldn't be counted. Even if it were my vote not counted I would support that policy.

I agree. The columnist is being much too harsh on McCrory's performance. He was the best Governor NC has had since Jim Martin.

Our now former governor, prior to the special session, spoke highly of HB2. What is inexplicable is why in the world would have been so stupid to call such a session just a few days before Christmas, on an issue for which he fought...to REPEAL it? Makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. Just one thing, though. He must have done it for "political points" as he leaves, which gave him none ... neither side likes him now. The measure lost, so the libs are unhappy. The session to repeal was called, so the conservatives were unhappy. He caused his own mess.

If McCrory is blaming HB2, that is a red herring to mask the real reason he lost. The win by Forest who wrapped himself in HB2 proves that. What cost McCrory his job was his persistent drive to push horrible toll lanes down the throats of residents along I-77 just north of Charlotte. He lost 33,000 votes in that region compared to 2012, more than enough to give him a victory. These tolls represented thousands in additional fees per year to individual citizens and businesses in order for McCrory to support some of his crony contractors that have records of bribery and corruption longer than Llebron JamesWilt is tall. His cronyism and deception go back a long way. He was the biggest spending mayor in the history of NC and had the gall to run for governor as a fiscal conservative. Glad he's gone. Now the Republicans will have to put on their big boy pants to keep Cooper in check. Better that than watching them bow to McCrory.

You better think about what you are saying when you praise McCracken from Columbus OH, let him go back to where he belongs. At least Cooper is a NC boy from a farm in Nash County. So stupid for NC to go looking for some one from another state to serve as our Governor. Only qualification McCracken had was plugging in a light socket and Duke Power of NC taught him that.
